Editing for Rough Cut

OK Rough cut is finished (Phew!!!). And a couple of changes was made. Prince's precious shots of buildings that he wanted at the start of the video has been scraped. Not intentionally. We were only following the advise of our teacher. She said having the buildings at the start of the video is in no way promoting the artist to her audience (It is promoting the Barbican instead).

Editing is under way and I must say it as challenging even if not more challenging than AS thriller opening.
But I must say it is not only challenging, it is enlightening as i am getting to know more about my effects and Editing 'stuff'. It also rewarding as I am broadening my skills .
As the editing continues, my blog will be updated.

Making of music video: Editing the music video with final cut pro - changing the start

So it turns out the start of our music video was more like the opening of a TV drama than a music video, due to us using shots of the Barbican for the beginning instead of using my face, which we did replace (sorry Prince!). It looks alot better and really helps to connect the audience with the artist.










We also layered the buildings on my face, using the influence of Pixie Lott's music video All About tonight as we said we would. This in turn gives an interesting change to how we see the artist.

Making of music video: Editing the music video with final cut pro - the basics

 So now we've got all the filming done and dusted, on to the more tricky part, which was editing. To make things more easier and logical for us, we put our 3 main base tracks of the the artist doing the performance in the bottom of the editing box, and then we began to slowly lay our other clips on top where we wanted them to show up.

We want our video to look quite interesting and different, so we plan to use a LOT of effects to make our video stand out, such as adding video filters and changing the speed of our clips. However, one problem we encountered with changing the speed of our video, is that it had a tendency to shift the WHOLE video out of sync, so my mouth was completely off sync with the song, especially when doing slow motion as it lengthened the clip and pushed the others away. Likewise, if we sped up the clips we had to use more footage as it made the clip really short, so we had to do that to compensate.

The dancing scene in our video proved difficult to edit, as we had to employ some of the techniques we used in AS for our thrillers in A2 - we had to matchcut the dancing so that the moves flowed perfectly. We managed to do that, however we encountered a few problems. The first issue, was that some of the clips were just too dark, I don't think it looked good. We will try to brighten it up, but we'll see if we have any further use for them. The second problem was that we put too many long shot clips of the dancers, so the dancing didn't have much interest in the video - it could have looked better. we will definitely try to rectify this.

So far, it's going pretty good, I shall upload more pictures soon!

editing

the first editing video is below my filming posts since the order is not exactly right at the moment. Although editing has been great at the moment as i am learning a lot more news things then i did last year. But not just me my whole group especially Kehinde as she is using final cut pro as if she used it for years now! which is great for us. Like i said before the first editing video which is the group one is below my other posts so check it out.

Filming updates.

On Saturday i could not go with my group since it was the day before Eid and a lot of preparations were needed to be done. Although this did not stop my amazing group from getting the job done. My group decided that this needed to be done quick at the same time not rushed. Therefore they decided to go in the morning so that they would have the rest of the day filming. Although it was very cold our group still stayed strong in these circumstances since our artists had to wear a dress. They started to film the base tracks of Stephanie and a few extra ones for Prince who is our lead dancer. At the moment most of our filming looks complete although if there is anything we need we would be able to act on it as soon as possible. So that leaves editing which is not quite as fun as the filming although a good way to learn some new skills.

I would like to thank my group Kehinde, Stephani, Prince for being not only good group members but friends. The communication in our group is great and i hope it stays like that in the future.
