The above is an advertisement for an upcoming dubstep event. It includes the names of performers, the theme and organisers. They are all in clear fonts which makes it visible to read.

Analysis of three digipaks

In order to analyse three digipaks of dubstep genre, I went to HMV in Wood Green to check out some albums and digipaks. To my surprise on getting there, I found out that the store does not have any digipak. Because of time, I have decided to analyse online resources instead.

Digipak- preparation

Well to have a good end product, enough preparation has to be put in place. In my group, we have started thinking about our Digipaks and making decisions on the similarities in our digipaks.
Firstly, we thought the colour should be black, white and grey. This is because our song and its genre has elements of darkness in it.
We are also thinking of bold, striking fonts that will easily capture the eye of our audience.
However, to have a wider knowledge about dubstep digipaks and to conform to the conventions, my next mission is to check out a number of dubstep digipaks and find out similar elements and content so as to give me an overview of how things work and how they should be. Hopefully after this, the right decisions will be made.

Digipak trial

I had a go at making a digipak during this morning's lesson. What an adventure!!!! I am not at all familiar with photoshop. As a result, I got annoyed at first because I was not getting the hang of everything. Bringing the picture to photoshop and cropping out the unwanted bit was the first hurdle that I struggled with. But as patience will have its way, I started working round it, checking out some things and viola! this is the Digipak.

I intend to continue working on my photoshop skills so as to be equipped well enough to produce my coursework.

Analysis past student work on digipaks

Above is the digipak made by A2 media students last year. Surfing through the archive, I saw lots of digipaks, but I chose to analyse this for particular reasons.

Strenghts
The first feature of this digipak that striked my attention is the picture. It has such a strong visual effects and outrightly captures the audience. I believe that this picture (and the digipak) helps the artist to fulfil his aim of introducing himself to his audience and attract fans.
Another good thing about this digipak is the choice of font. It is quite "shocking". It is conventional in that the artist's name is in bolder fonts than the album title. The font used to list the songs is not bad as well.
Furthermore, the digipak has all the right amout information that a conventional digipak would have; the barcode, record label logo, copyright, Panels information e.t.c.
The picture on the back works well also because it is faded and makes the list of songs visible.
Weaknesses
The font in the list of songs is not consistent maybe this was intentional but i don't like it because it will make more sense and look better if the font is consistent.

Bad example of a digipak

This has many weaknesses first of all the font is not clear, she looks yellow with no expression on hr face. The text/font is to small as well as the colour choice not being good as it does no go with the font. The font in the front cover overlaps her face slightly and it also looks quite dull and its a similar colour to the background. The back cover going back to the font not being clear, you can hardly see it as the colour is not used properly as well as the font not being simple.

Strengths 


First of all the font is simple and clear and the colour goes well with the whole of the digipak and it contains consistency. It also has a record company and a spine to go along with its elegant look. Graphics are also simple and very nice as goes along with the font style and font colour.  

Weakness


The only weakness i would say here is that their is not much graphics or editing although that could also be a strength as i mentioned before.
