State of the music industry in 2012

Summarise what you have learned about the state of the music industry in 2012.

First of all the buisness of the music industry nowadays are dying in terms of the way artists get paid. Music in todays world is usually free, people can now download their faviorite songs online over the internet. However years ago music was bought in shops and albums and singles had a higher rate of sales then in todays world. Sales fall every year in the UK sales fell 7% in 2010 and nearly 10% in the united states, which is the world largest music market. Warner music in which Cee Lo Green and Plan B are accociated with addmited their pre- Chrismas sales were down to aproxitmately 10 to 14 percent. HMV has lost 60 shops as they were all shut due to the following poor pre-Chrismas sales. Canadian indie rock bans manager, Scott Rodger said wind the clock back a few years thee album would of made up to 4 million to 5 million in relation to Arcade Fires The Suburbs album which was the album of the year at the US Grammy Awards. It had sold only 1.4 million copies worldwide, although this may seem to be a large sum it is nothing compared to previous albums being sold in the past.

The Music industry has halved in size. The hope that digital sales would one day pick up the growth of CD sales levelled off. Download sales growth has all but stalled as it posted just 1% growth throughtout all of 2010. The only way to get more sales from the CD's is from diverse new strategies. Radio head's 'Honesty box' experiment, Deluxe edition is an example of this. In which people could donate whatever they thought the album was worth to give it an equal pricing. However this was priced at 6 pounds for an open format Mp3 download or 9 pounds for a higher 'CD-quality' WAV format. Ellie Goulding with her sports sponsorship with nike would involve social network (through her facebook)-invited events with runs with the fans for an niche market of runners. They were to run with her in seven different cities on her UK tour.
Spotify is the streaming service which people can watch their faviorite music videos or listen to songs. It has over 500,000 paying customers. However the adverts were free and would annoy some of the users. Although they offered a subscription service at the price of 10  pounds a month for no adverts. The artists income of money is mainly due to performing 'gigs', tours, concerts etc...
